On Monday, the Italian media were adamant that, amid interest from Inter Milan, Tottenham want to sign Jonathan David from Lille.
It was said that Spurs had the Canada international at the top of their list should Harry Kane be sold to Bayern Munich, although there were worries his price would shoot up because of the amount spent on Rasmus Højlund. This could create a surge in prices around the striker market, as the Dane only had nine league goals to his name last season, while the Tottenham target had 24.
Of course, more than goals come into play when valuations are created, but that doesn’t appear to have put off the London side, as Gazzetta dello Sport push the story again on Tuesday.
They state that Tottenham are ‘strong’ in their pursuit of the striker, who is valued by the Ligue 1 side at around €50m, and they would be ‘ready to reinvest’ the money that comes in from the Kane sale to get a deal over the line.
First, however, we need Bayern Munich to reach an agreement with Daniel Levy for the England international, and that could take a while.
Monday saw directors of the Bundesliga side travel to London for talks before returning to Germany empty handed, with no agreement in sight just yet.
