Tottenham Hotspur showed interest in Royale Union Saint-Gilloise star Kōki Machida in the winter market but no deal took shape.
Two months ago, we covered claims from the Belgian press that Spurs have the defender and his club teammate, Mohamed Amoura, on their agenda
Voetbal Krant now state Tottenham are keen on signing the centre-back in the summer window.
Machida has been a regular for his side this season and scored the winner to help them beat Royal Antwerp in the Belgian Cup final last week. The report says he’ll be rewarded for his impressive performances with a ‘prestigious transfer’.
The Japan international’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed, yet only Tottenham are tagged in the report. It’s claimed Ange Postecoglou’s side wanted to buy him last summer and are ‘still interested’ in signing him, as he would suit the Premier League.
Machida’s deal lasts until 2026, but Royale Union Saint-Gilloise suspect he won’t stay for much longer at the club. Therefore, they are aiming to collect €15m from his sale in the next window.
This would please the north London club as the fee is affordable and Spurs would also be delighted to know that the player has opened the door for the transfer.
“I know there are many articles about me in the newspapers. I’m not sure if I will still be at Union next season, I’m not sure. I’m mainly focusing on the end of the season with the opportunity to become champion,” he said, as quoted by Voetbal Krant.
