Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen grew up in the small Danish town of Middelfart. He’s been speaking to the Danish media repeatedly since signing his new Tottenham contract, free of the worry of having to talk about it.
Middelfart was also Eriksen’s first club and speaking this week to Unisport he said there was no pressure at the club, but his father was always pushing him in football.
Eriksen has spoken about that again, to Danish magazine Euroman (Via BT.dk) and explained his father was always encouraging him to improve, and pointing out mistakes: “There were some days that were miserable. When we sat in the car on the way home from the match, my father said about any situation in the game: ‘What have you done there? Why did you do such and such?
“And then you sit there, like such a little boy in the backseat and sinking further and further down into the seat and don’t really know what to do.”
Eriksen explained that whilst he’d sometime get upset at the criticism, he’s sure his father knew he could handle it, and was therefore only doing what he thought was best to push his son to fulfil his natural talent.
