Barcelona continue to be hopeful that Tottenham Hotspur will sign Clement Lenglet on a permanent basis. The Frenchman spent last season on loan with the Premier League club, and Spurs decided against using their buying option.
The Catalan stance has long been that failure to use the clause wasn’t because Tottenham had decided against the signing, they just wanted a significant discount.
Indeed, a couple of weeks ago it was reported that Spurs wanted Barcelona to release Lenglet from his contract, as they had just done with Samuel Umtiti, so that he could be signed for free.
The Blaugrana weren’t keen on this, and that’s why everything slowed down.
Sport report Tottenham and Barcelona were in contact over the transfer at the weekend, and ‘everyone is clear’ there will need to be compromises to get a deal over the line.
Spurs are said to have a verbal agreement with the defender on a three year deal, so now it’s just a case of the two clubs reaching a happy medium.
Barcelona and Lenglet are negotiating compensation for the remainder of his contract because Tottenham won’t pay as much as he was contracted to get at the Camp Nou.
