As you might recall, this summer saw Tottenham try to sign Nicolo Zaniolo from AS Roma, which the Serie A side weren’t overly keen about.

They would have let him go had the right offer, meaning money up front, arrived, but Spurs weren’t interested in that, perhaps wary of the player’s two long-term knee injuries.

That’s why they came forward with a loan with an option to buy, but Roma turned that away, leaving them with the task of renewing their star.

It’s something he’s rather open to, with the right wages, but an agreement hasn’t been found yet, and with a current contract expiring in 2024, time is of the essence.

If he reaches next summer without a new deal, they run the risk of losing for free the year after that, meaning they could be forced to sell to ensure that doesn’t happen.

This could certainly benefit Tottenham, who continue to look at Roma both on and off the field, as shown by the fact the Premier League side have recently signed their Chief Revenue Officer, Ryan Norys, according to Il Tempo, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb.

He will become Spurs’ new Commercial Director, and that could be the first of two moves the London side make, as Gazzetta dello Sport continue to push the idea they want Zaniolo.

If he doesn’t renew, there is little room for Roma to negotiate, as they won’t be able to ask for huge figures, and that’s why the belief is he could cost as little as €30-40m next summer.

In the event the club and the player reach that stage, the expectation is that Juventus, Milan and Tottenham (and perhaps others) are ‘at the window’, waiting to find out if Zaniolo renews or not.
