Tottenham Hotspur are set to hold a meeting with Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, according to claims from Portugal.
This information is today highlighted by newspaper Record, who feature a front page story about Spurs’ chase for the Lions’ boss.
The outlet writes that Amorim has been on Tottenham’s radar for a while, and the interest grew following his clashes against them in the Champions League and also versus Arsenal in the Europa League. Now he’s part of a ‘strict list’ of options to replace Antonio Conte at the club.
Record say the meeting will take place after the season, as Sporting already ‘admitted’ that the manager and his agent Raul Costa will analyse approaches made for him.
It’s claimed that Amorim previously had many reasons to stay in charge of the Lions, but the disappointing season, which is leaving them out of the Champions League next year, could make him think of an exit this time.
Record points out that the manager has a contract until 2026 and is protected by a €20m release clause.
However, they do not say if Tottenham would need to pay that much or if Sporting would make any kind of friendly deal regarding his departure.
