Tottenham could be a ‘surprise suitor’ for Eintracht Frankfurt star Randal Kolo Muani if they ‘need’ to replace Harry Kane this summer.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say Tottenham are unlikely to be bidding for the Frenchman but could be pulled into the race.
They explain that a move to one of Europe’s top clubs is ‘imminent’ for Muani, with several offers expected this summer after a campaign in which he has 19 goals and 14 assists in 38 games so far.
Those numbers have led to something of a poker game developing for Muani’s signature and, because the striker doesn’t have a release clause in his current contract, a ‘bidding war’ is expected to break out.
Eintracht are hoping to for a transfer fee beyond €100m, a dream figure for a player that arrived at the club on a free transfer from Nantes last summer.
That’s a figure the big clubs would be happy to pay and although Tottenham aren’t exactly in that club, in terms of paying huge fees such as that, they are considered a potential ‘surprise suitor’.
That’s because they could find themselves ‘in need’ of a striker if Harry Kane decides not to extend his current contract, which expires in 2024.
That would leave Tottenham needing to sell their record goal scorer before he becomes available on a free transfer next summer and they miss out on a fee altogether.
He’s been linked with Bayern Munich and Manchester United and should he depart, it would leave a huge hole in Spurs forward line that would need filling and Muani could be the man to do so.
