The injury suffered by Tottenham Hotspur star Richarlison became big news in Brazil this Friday.

The reason for it is that the national team is about to call up the squad for the friendlies against England and Spain, and there’s now some concern whether the striker will be fit for those matches.

ESPN Brasil today features a piece claiming the injury news comes at a ‘terrible time’ for Richarlison.

With Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou claiming the player should be sidelined for two or three weeks, it’s pointed out that he would be about to get fit just before the first friendly, which will be played on the 23rd of March, meaning he would have very little time to train with the squad.

Brazil have a new manager in charge, Dorival Junior, and with few matches to be played before the Copa América, it’s important for players to impress the boss and try to guarantee their place in the tournament, especially for attackers, who face a bigger competition.

The call-up takes place later today, and we’ll see if the Tottenham player will get a chance to get in the squad, perhaps with an appearance in the second friendly at the back of the manager’s mind.
