The Brazilian media today shares very interesting news about a treatment Tottenham Hotspur fullback Emerson Royal has been trying.

Globo Esporte reports that as the player has been suffering ‘again’ with pain in his patellar tendon, he now underwent a procedure for the implant of stem cells.

The outlet claims that Royal’s injury initially happened a year ago, and since the Tottenham player was never completely cured, he’s now trying an alternative solution.

According to the report, the tests showed the area was undergoing calcification, and that was affecting the healing.

Royal has had stem cells extracted from his own bone marrow, and the material is responsible for speeding up his recovery, as bones, muscles and cartilage are all aided in regeneration.

The Tottenham player is quoted by Globo Esporte talking about the issue.

“I couldn’t take a step, I had no strength, it hurt a lot. A few days after (the treatment) I didn’t feel any more pain, then we did the second application to make the tendon stronger, but I didn’t feel any pain.”

Globo Esporte also brings some quotes from Dr. Luiz Felipe Carvalho, who’s taking care of him.

“The effectiveness rate of the procedure is 100%. The patient’s own cells are used without any risk of rejection, and the cells are able to deflate, heal and regenerate the lesions in up to 70% less than the original timeframe. If a lesion has 30 days to heal, with the right technique we can heal it in up to ten days.”

Royal has 20 appearances for Tottenham this season, and hasn’t played since the start of the month. Since he was not completely ruled out, he was still being taken to the bench, and this treatment is now supposed to make him feel 100% ready.
