Tottenham have received an offer from Saudi Arabia for midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, but he has ruled out the option completely this summer.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say that former club Real Betis are ‘working without hurry’ to try and sign the Argentine for a second time.
They explain that Betis are working to repeat the operation they managed with West Ham earlier this year for Pablo Fornals, which saw him leave six months before the end of his contract for a fee of around €8m.
Tottenham value Lo Celso at a much higher €20m, a figure nobody is going to offer as he is out of contract next year and free to talk to suitors about a free transfer from January.
Betis have been in contact with Lo Celso’s entourage for months, having previously been blocked from doing so as Ange Postecoglou wanted him as part of his squad this season.
He ultimately never relied on him, and this ‘ostracism’ has been the last straw for the midfielder, who has told his agents he will do everything he can to return to Betis, the place where he was happiest in his career.
The difficult part is bringing Tottenham’s demands down but there is a plan in place, and he’s already rejected an offer from Saudi Arabia.
That’s the only place that have made a firm offer to Tottenham for him, but Lo Celso isn’t interested and wants to return to La Liga with Betis, who are in constant dialogue to try and make it happen.
