A couple of days ago, it was announced in the Italian media that Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg had changed agents ahead of the summer transfer window.
The midfielder has struggled to get into Ange Postecoglou’s plans since the new manager took over, having previously been a key cog in the Spurs machine.
This has led to a lot of speculation about his Tottenham future, and Calciomercato take a look at what is going on and what all this means.
They lead with the idea that Højbjerg and a move to Italy is a ‘marriage that has to be made’, and the fact he has entrusted his career to Luca Puccinelli of the USG Italy agency ‘appears to be a clear signal’ that he wants to move to Serie A.
The outlet claim the Tottenham player had ‘already decided to make a move in January’, but the Premier League side were reluctant to let him go and ‘did not want to indulge’ his wishes.
Spurs then set the price at €35m, but because his contract in London expires in 2025, his valuation next summer will ‘surely be much lower’.
Juventus and Napoli were interested last summer, and a move to the former of the two ‘depends on Max Allegri’, who really wanted him in January.
However, with the manager’s future in Turin currently up in the air, a departure could see the club’s plan change.
As for Napoli, their interest ‘remains alive’, and this is an avenue that Puccinelli ‘could reopen in the coming months’, as the player ‘wants Italy’, and the ‘time seems to be ripe’ for a move this time around.
