Vincent Janssen couldn’t stop talking this week in the Netherlands. It’s not because he searches for the limelight, but because the Tottenham Hotspur striker is in such demand, seen as a big part of the future of the national team.
After failing to qualify for Euro 2016, it was decided change was needed, and whilst manager Daley Blind still clings on to his job, to the annoyance of many Dutch fans, several players found themselves ostracised from the set-up.
That left space for Janssen to come through and he’s made the striker spot his own. In March, the Netherlands played a match against England at Wembley, and they won 2-1, after Janssen had converted a penalty to equalise.
The Dutchman says his new Tottenham teammates were imprerssed by the game, and confused as to why the Netherlands didn’t qualify. Quoted by Voetbal International, Janssen said: “That game has surely made an impression. So many players have already asked me how it could that the Oranje were not in France.
“I’m glad we have launched a new path, so the sight is directed forward. With the World Cup in Russia as a target. We need to be there. We have enough quality, I’m convinced.”
