Tottenham will need to move quickly if they still wish to sign Clement Lenglet from Barcelona as he starts to consider alternative options.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the player is growing frustrated with a lack of movement and now considering Saudi Arabia as a destination.
The newspaper reports that he is ‘looking for a way out’ of Barcelona and has been waiting all summer to find a team that can sign him.
He has several interested parties, including Tottenham, who are at the front of the queue after his loan spell at the club last season.
The problem, as has been the case through the entire summer transfer window, is the high wage packet that the French defender currently picks up at the Camp Nou.
Few clubs are willing to take that on nor pay a transfer fee to Barcelona, who are desperate to get rid of him but also owe the player €15m after he signed a reduced contract during the COVID pandemic under the assurance he would paid down the line.
Thus, a deal has been stalled for some time and faced with this scenario, Lenglet is starting to look around at his other options.
Tottenham’s interest is ‘pending’ at this moment in time but now Lenglet ‘does not close the door’ to Saudi Arabia after previously rejecting a €10m per year offer from Al-Nassr.
He’s re-opened that route, although Al-Nassr have now signed Aymeric Laporte so that option is no longer available to him.
Other clubs may be interested, though, so if Tottenham do want him back, they may need to move quickly or risk losing out on him altogether.
