Inter Milan were ‘kicking themselves a little bit’ after missing out on Guglielmo Vicario to Tottenham in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to Empoli president Fabrizio Coris, who says “Tottenham moved first” for the Italian’s signature and got their man.

Vicario joined Tottenham in an €18.5m deal in the summer as they sought out a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.

He’s proven to be a big hit under Ange Postecoglou since, replacing Lloris between the sticks and justifying that with a series of impressive performances with six clean sheets in 22 games in all competitions to date.

He’s very much one of the stars of the season under Postecoglou and proven to be a smart piece of business so far.

That’s not gone unnoticed in Italy, where the 27-year-old had earned himself a growing reputation during his performances for Empoli after returning from loan spells away in 2022.

It seems one of the clubs that were disappointed they didn’t move was Inter Milan, who had eyed him as a replacement for Andre Onana but didn’t move quickly enough to get him before Tottenham.

“The disappointment is not to see him with an Italian team fighting for the Scudetto,” he said.

“I think Inter are kicking themselves a bit, but they had the problem of selling Onana first and Tottenham moved first.”
