As Tottenham Hotspur officials were spotted watching Sporting this weekend, we pointed out that they could be scouting Bruno Fernandes, who was recently claimed to be a target for the Premier League club in the next transfer window.

And even though newspapers O Jogo and A Bola didn’t have to say anything about the matter on Monday, this Tuesday they confirm that information, saying Tottenham emissaries were in Lisbon exactly to keep an eye on the midfielder.

Bruno Fernandes has been getting big attention from the Portuguese press lately, having front page stories from newspapers O Jogo, A Bola and Record today.

Although O Jogo’s article is mostly focused on the player’s performances, Record and A Bola come up with stories on his transfer situation, especially because of new interest from some big European sides in signing him.

Record claims that Bruno Fernandes’ €100m release clause can only be activated in June, and Sporting have absolutely no intention to sell the player in the next window.

The race is getting pretty intense, as both Juventus and Atletico Madrid would be competing for him as well. Regarding English clubs, A Bola say that Tottenham are not the only competitor in the Premier League, but are the one with the strongest interest.

They also say that Sporting don’t want to sell him this year, as apparently, Fernandes is the Lions’ new golden boy. So to win this race, it’s pretty clear that Tottenham would have to spend big, especially with Juve involved in the battle.
