Manchester United and Tottenham have both met with agents representing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili over a potential move for the stopper.
That’s according to COPE, who say the Premier League duo are ‘interested’ in the 22-year-old as they look at new number ones for next season.
They explain that it is an open secret the ‘meteoric rise’ of Mamardashvili has not gone unnoticed by the biggest clubs in Europe.
They are ‘willing to fish’ in the troubled waters of Valencia for him after his performances this season confirmed he is one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga.
He is of particular interest to the Premier League and several clubs have ‘already made moves’ for him ahead of the summer.
They were there for a meeting with Chelsea but that followed talks with Tottenham and Manchester United, who have already met with his entourage to ‘find out the conditions’ for a potential departure from Valencia.
Getting him out of the Spanish side is no easy task as he signed a new contract last September until June 2027 and that includes a €100m release clause.
Valencia would presumably want that figure to be activated if they were to sell, although it is a fact that they need to sell in the summer to raise funds.
That means they are ‘forced to negotiate a possible exit’ for the Georgian goalkeeper, although to date neither Manchester United or Tottenham have approached the club to ‘express any interest or offer’ for their goalkeeper.
At the moment their interest appears to be from afar, with Spurs often travelling to the Mestalla to watch the player and his progress. United, meanwhile, have simply met his representatives to sound the player out.
