Tottenham Hotspur’s Bryan Gil has been on loan at Girona since last summer and picked up an injury last week.
On Monday, claims from Spain said the winger suffered a serious setback and his season could be cut short.
Journalist Nil Solà took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state that the Tottenham man has suffered a ‘major injury’.
He claims the 24-year-old’s ligament has been damaged and he needs to decide whether or not to undergo surgery.
Estadio Deportivo state the Spain international underwent further tests and results have shown ‘damage to the meniscus and lateral ligament’. He is expected to miss the rest of the season.
This can impact the Tottenham owned player’s stay at Girona beyond this season. As of now, Gil’s future is up in air as it’s not clear whether the La Liga side will exercise their €15m purchase option.
Gil’s contract at Spurs expires in 2026 and a decision has to be made on his future in the summer, but that will be difficult if he isn’t fit.
Over at Marca, they also state the Tottenham man has ‘torn the meniscus and lateral ligament in his knee’.
They state it’s certain that Gil will be out for the remainder of the season. He will have to make a decision in the ‘next few hours’ on whether or not to go under the knife.
