Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg remains ‘the desired one’ for Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone as he continues to look for a new defensive midfielder for his squad.
That’s according to AS, who say that there is a growing uneasiness at the Spanish club over the lack of movement in the area.
Simeone made it clear to those in charge at the club that he wanted a new player in the position at the beginning of August, but time has passed by without one arriving.
That’s a problem as the first-choice player, Geoffrey Kondogbia, has departed, leaving an even bigger hold needing to be filled.
Tottenham’s Hojbjerg is one of several names to have been linked and is ‘willing to make an effort’ for the transfer to take place but there’s been no movement.
He’s currently being forced to rely on youngster Pablo Barrios, a challenge the 20-year-old is proving to be more than equal to.
Simeone still wants a more experienced player in there, though, and would love to sign Hojbjerg from Tottenham, but time is ticking away, and the ‘pressure’ is growing as a result, with all indications the transfer won’t happen.
Mundo Deportivo have a slightly more positive outlook on the matter, stating that while a deal with Tottenham is complicated, talks are continuing nontheless.
Atletico would like to secure a loan deal looking to take advantage of the fact Hojbjerg has not featured under Ange Postecoglou so far.
In fact, the belief is that the Danish midfielder is not a part of his plans moving forwards and he is continuing to ‘press’ to try and make the move happen before tomorrow’s deadline.
