Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilón was given ‘a second chance’ in a friendly on Wednesday evening to impress at Atlético Madrid after a disastrous few months at the club.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the full-back remains in Diego Simeone’s plans despite barely featuring since joining in the summer.
The defender arrived on loan from Tottenham, where it was made clear he was not a part of Antonio Conte’s plans for this season.
He turned up at the club injured, suffering from pubalgia, which required surgery that meant it was several weeks before he could train normally.
As such he ‘has only played 21 minutes’ this season, playing in the clash with Mallorca before the World Cup break after sitting on the bench for the clash for a trip to Cádiz.
He didn’t leave a ‘bad impression’ in that game, putting his ‘heart and soul into’ his performance and that is something that did not go unnoticed.
The Spanish side intend to stick by the Tottenham loanee in the second half of the season and that was demonstrated yesterday when he was handed a chance in a friendly with Ponferradina.
Reguilón was a second half substitute in that game and managed to provide an assist in the win, two positives that will hopefully lead to a better second half of the season.
