Tottenham striker Richarlison finds himself ‘increasingly under threat’ with Brazil, with his ongoing goal drought giving Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus his chance to replace him.
That’s according to Istoe Esportes and Lance, who both cover the Tottenham man today and how his starting role is becoming increasingly hard to justify.
Richarlison again drew a blank on Thursday, failing to find the back of the net in the 1-1 draw with Venezuela in Cuiabá-MT.
He’s now gone six games without scoring for his country, a run that ‘further threatens’ his place in Fernando Diniz’s starting attack.
They accept that while Brazil’s forward line was not at it’s best and therefore did not help the Tottenham man, or any player for that matter, the fact is that Richarlison has not been in good form ‘for some time’.
His ‘bad moment’ has continued for the Seleçao, with his last goal coming in the 4-2 win over South Korea at the World Cup in Qatar. Since then, he’s failed to score against Croatia, Guinea, Senegal, Bolivia, Peru and now Venezuela.
The Tottenham man still has the support of Diniz, but the fact is his place is ‘increasingly under threat’, particularly as the manager has been praising Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus for a while.
Indeed, when substituting Richarlison off against Venezuela, he was replaced by the Arsenal forward. He didn’t have a great game either but has ‘good morale’, something that seemingly can’t be said of Richarlison.
Therefore, it is possible that Diniz will change things for the upcoming clash with Uruguay, with Jesus or even Matheus Cunha coming in to play the central role. The fact is that the ‘vacancy is open for this position’.
That’s another disappointment for Richarlison who, if he fails to score in his next game will equal his longest goalscoring drought for Brazil.
