Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilón’s injury misery at Atlético Madrid shows no signs of ending, with the player only ‘halfway’ back from his latest injury.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say it is a case for small steps forwards for the Tottenham man after a miserable campaign.
He’s been with Atlético since the summer when he arrived as a temporary replacement for Renan Lodi following his move to Nottingham Forest.
He’s barely featured for Diego Simeone’s side this season, though, making just four appearances in La Liga this season and featuring in only 4% of the available minutes overall.
That’s due to various injury issues plaguing his campaign, with him having arrived with a groin strain and since suffered from pubalgia and then another hamstring injury.
He’s yet to return from the latter, with Mundo explaining that he has only just returned to training after almost 40 days out.
The defender trained with his teammates this week but only ‘half-heartedly’ and was only part of the first session put on. He remains a ‘doubt’ moving forwards, with the focus currently on improving his fitness and working with the recovery coaches at the club.
The hope is to have him fit for at least some part of the remainder of the season, before he returns to Tottenham in the summer after a miserable year back in his homeland.
