Barcelona defender Clément Lenglet was on loan at Tottenham Hotspur last season and the Premier League side are reportedly trying to buy him in the summer window.
Xavi Hernández won’t include the 28-year-old in his plans next season and the La Liga side are trying to get rid of him permanently, in order to lighten the wage bill and improve their finances.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say Barca have an urgent need to carry out a few sales and are focusing on selling those players who were out on loan last season. Lenglet is included in this list.
It’s stated Tottenham have a desire to bring him back and have made a €5m offer to the Camp Nou side. Mundo say the ‘excuse’ Ange Postecoglou’s side have used to make a low bid is that they have to compensate for the Frenchman’s high wages.
On Tuesday, Sport reported the north London club have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ with the player for a three-year deal.
This claim has now been dismissed by La Vanguardia, who have been told by sources close to the player that an agreement with Tottenham is ‘still far away’. The newspaper also states he could join another Premier League side in this window.
