Back in the summer, Tottenham were desperate for a new striker to backup Harry Kane in case the English international ended up injured, like he is now.

Myriads of names were linked with a move to London, where they would end up being managed by José Mourinho, and the one that finally stuck was Benfica’s Carlos Vinicius, who joined on loan with an option to buy.

However, among the numerous rumours was one involving Andrea Belotti, with Spurs’ approach for the Torino forward confirmed by the Serie A side’s director of football Davide Vagnati.

Even with the Brazilian now filling in for Kane, it appears the interest in the Italian goalscorer hasn’t gone away, according to La Stampa.

The Italian newspaper, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb, state that Tottenham, ‘above all’, see him as the ‘typical striker suited to the English’ way of playing due to his style of play.

The good news for Spurs is that his contract ends in 2022, with no renewal currently in sight. That would provide Daniel Levy with a good basis to start negotiations.

The newspaper state this needs to be sorted ‘before the start of the new season in order not to run the risk of starting a campaign without a parachute for the club’.

Belotti, down his end, ‘is devoting all his energy to the present’, and the ‘point of no return to decipher his destiny won’t come before the summer when they will take stock’ of it all.
