When clubs are relegated from the Premier League, such as Southampton have just been, there’s often an over confidence of how cheaply they’ll be forced to sell players.
In recent years it’s almost been routine to see clubs from around Europe assemble like vultures to snap players away on the cheap, only to then find out the bargains aren’t quite as lowly priced as they’d hoped. Southampton will be taking that stance now, as will most sides relegated to the Championship. It was different for Leeds United because they’d dished out a bunch of clauses allowing players to leave if they were relegated.
There’s now an update from Germany, which also involves Tottenham Hotspur, on Bundesliga interest in Southampton’s Tyler Dibling.
Philipp Hinze reports RB Leipzig were keen in the winter window and are interested again. They’ll be up against Tottenham and Bayern Munich and the Southampton player is said to be open to a move to German football.
Florian Plettenberg reports RB Leipzig and leading the race against Tottenham and Bayern, and that the cost of a transfer will be ‘significantly’ less than the €70-80m which had been rumoured.
As far as Plettenberg is concerned, Tottenham are outsiders for the Southampton player.
