Pervis Estupinan

Pervis Estupinan has endured a frustrating time at AC Milan since his arrival from Brighton, but is now attracting Tottenham Hotspur attention

The Ecuadorian scored the Rossoneri’s crucial goal in the Milan derby win some weeks ago. But soon enough, that promise faded as he made a key error against Lazio.

Unfortunately, that has been the story of Estupinan’s season, which has been plagued by defensive problems.

Sport Witness have covered claims that he could be in line for a return to the Premier League, where he excelled for Brighton. West Ham and Fulham were mentioned as suitors, with the Rossoneri interested in his sale.

Now, Tottenham have come forward for the player, who can end up at the London club, potentially alongside Roberto De Zerbi.

Tottenham make initial enquiries

Journalist Alessandro Jacobone reports on the left-back’s situation, clarifying that his future is indeed uncertain.

Tottenham have made simple enquiries about him, with the Italian journalist confident that this could be something worth keeping an eye on.

In fact, a deal can take off especially if Spurs end up hiring Roberto De Zerbi. The former Marseille manager played a key part in Estupinan’s career during their time at Brighton, where the duo really thrived together.

It is believed that the 28-year-old has other suitors in the Premier League, with Milan having paid €17m to sign him last summer.

Estupinan feels out of depth at Milan

One reason behind the defender’s struggles is Max Allegri’s system. It demands a fair amount of defensive work.

That includes a lot of ground coverage even from attacking players. Someone like Rafael Leao is also expected to make multiple sprints and if needed, do the dirty work.

Pervis Estupinan himself has never been that kind of player. He has always thrived on attacking and his best comes in the final third.

Allegri’s system demands the exact opposite, thereby exposing the player’s weaknesses.

De Zerbi to Tottenham not certain yet

The idea of Pervis Estupinan ending up in North London seems a bit far-fetched, at least for now. This is mainly because Roberto De Zerbi is yet to commit to any club.

On Wednesday, Sport Witness covered claims the Italian will only make a decision about his future in the summer. So even if Tottenham may want him right away, he will wait and consider all his options when the season ends.

Keeping all that in mind, a lot of things need to go in the right direction for Spurs to sign the Premier League proven left-back. One to keep an eye on.
