Tottenham have held ‘preliminary contacts’ with Romelu Lukaku over a move to the club from Chelsea this summer.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the initial survey has not led to ‘anything concrete’ at this moment in time.
The website covers Lukaku today and an increasingly bleak outlook for him as he looks to secure a move away from Chelsea before the end of the window.
The Blues have made it clear that the Belgian is not a part of their plans, and they want to move him on but a return to Inter is off the table and a potential switch to Juventus is growing increasingly unlikely.
His future now appears to lie ‘between Tottenham and Saudi Arabia’, with the former looking for a replacement for Harry Kane.
Daniel Levy and co are looking for a replacement that ‘wont make him regret’ and the latest idea is to move for Lukaku.
Tottenham have held ‘initial preliminary contacts’ about a move, it isn’t made completely clear if that’s with the player or Chelsea, but that has not led to anything concrete as yet.
The cost of the transfer would be considered ‘relatively low’, but Spurs are holding back because of Lukaku’s wage demands, with him aiming for €10.8m net per season.
There is a ‘glimmer of opportunity’ for a deal to be done between Chelsea and Tottenham and that is being explored without anything being pushed at this moment in time.
The alternative is a move to Saudi Arabia, but Lukaku has already rejected that idea, preferring to remain in Europe, a boost if Spurs decide to move ahead with a transfer.
It’s a situation to keep an eye on in the final weeks of the window, particularly if Tottenham can get rid of players, something Ange Postecoglou has insisted is their current priority.
