Thursday saw a story published on the Daily Mirror’s website, with the English newspaper claiming Nantes in France were interested in bringing back Georges-Kevin N’Koudou from Tottenham.

The young winger signed for Spurs over the summer from Marseille for just under £10m, yet has only played 283 minutes of football this season, with just 36 of those coming in the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino has excused this by saying some players need more time to adapt to English football, but is sitting on the bench really the best way of doing this?

The Mirror make it clear that Nantes, currently 15th in Ligue 1, are interested in ‘re-signing’ the player, which seems pretty unrealistic.

If this is meant to be on a full transfer, there’s little chance the French side will have the money to accomplish this, and even if it was just for a season-long loan, wages would certainly be an issue.

The only way this could feasibly happen would be if Tottenham agree to pay a large chunk of N’Koudou’s salary.

Even then, would the forward want to return to a club he left two years ago, having continuously progressed up to a Premier League side?

At the age of 21 (he turns 22 on Monday), a move back to Nantes would certainly be two steps back in what has been a promising career so far.
