Tottenham may be regretting their decision to let Troy Parrott leave this summer, as he continues to shine in the Netherlands.
Voetbal Primeur cover comments from Tottenham favourite Rafael van der Vaart today on the striker and how he feels he’s becoming a ‘gem’.
Parrott is currently playing for AZ Alkmaar after joining the Dutch side in the summer in a €4m deal from Tottenham.
That brought an end to a long association with Spurs, who he joined from Belvedere FC in Ireland in July 2017.
He spent the following years moving up the various youth ranks and going out on loan to the likes of Millwall, Ipswich, MK Dons, Preston and then Excelsior last season.
He’s been earning plenty of praise for those numbers, although in reality of five of his goals in the Eredivisie so far, four came in a 9-1 win over Heerenveen.
Nonetheless, former Tottenham favourite Van der Vaart has been impressed by what he’s seen so far.
“I think he’s going to be a really big player,” he said.
“I don’t know what it is. I saw him at Excelsior, but then he was more on the counter. Now he is a good, footballing striker, who actually has everything. He just needs to develop his killer instinct a bit.
“He can perhaps play football a bit too well to be a killer. Then you start wandering a bit and that costs strength. In the final phase you lack some strength to score. I really think he is a gem.”
