Tottenham have a fight on their hands to convince Sevilla star Jules Koundé to join the club as he considers them a ‘second-tier’ team.
That’s according to El Desmarque, who cover the defender’s future today as he looks set for a big-money move this summer.
Koundé has established himself as one of the hottest prospects in world football over the last two years, with several big sides in Europe all keen on his signature.
Sevilla are happy to sell if they can get a big fee for him, but so far, that hasn’t arrived, with the transfer market slow to get going this summer as a result of the COVID pandemic.
That’s a problem for Sevilla as they need to sell Koundé before they can get their own transfer business underway.
They are not willing to lower their €80m demands, but the suitors are thinning out, with the likes of Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and PSG having signed other players in the same position.
Even other clubs, like Chelsea and Manchester United, are likely to turn to Raphael Varane, who looks set to leave Real Madrid.
Koundé, therefore may not get the big move he wants, and that should give other suitors, namely Tottenham, their chance of signing him.
However, El Desmarque say that for the Frenchman, they are one of the teams ‘in the second-tier’ and so do ‘not completely satisfy’ him.
In other words, Tottenham are not a big enough club for Koundé to consider them seriously at this moment in time.
Why that is the case isn’t mentioned, but it’s likely to do with the fact they’re not in the Champions League, and he’s been eyeing a move to one of the European elite for a while.
Perhaps that stance will change if his options remain limited towards the end of the window, but at this moment in time, it doesn’t look good for Spurs.
