Over the past few days, Tuttosport have shared daily updates on Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Genoa star Albert Gudmundsson.
Two days ago, they stated Spurs have sat down to negotiate a deal for the forward’s transfer. On Thursday, the same outlet said he dreams of moving to the Premier League and is waiting for a call from Spurs.
Friday’s edition of Tuttosport states Tottenham are set to provide competition to Juventus in the race for the 26-year-old.
The Iceland international has been on the Old Lady’s radar for several months and they are serious about him. His deal lasts until 2027 and the Serie A side currently value him at €35m.
It’s claimed this figure is too high for Juve and other Italian clubs, but not for Tottenham. In fact, the report states it would ‘not be a problem at all’ for them to meet Genoa’s request.
Tuttosport add Tottenham are a ‘bogeyman’ from the Premier League that the Turin club must keep an eye on. The latter, however, believe they can manage the competition from Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Spurs have ‘tested the waters’ but haven’t yet taken firm steps like Juve, who have held talks with the player’s representatives. He currently earns €1.2m per year and a move to Juve will see his salary rise to at least €3m with bonuses included.
Gudmundsson will also have a better sporting project at Juve than Genoa. The same can also be said about Tottenham, who could offer him a salary in excess of €3m, and this is something that Tuttosport haven’t taken into account.
In short, Spurs have the financial muscle to leave Juventus behind in the transfer race.
