With the Portuguese media getting more and more convinced that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Sporting full-back Pedro Porro, newspaper Correio da Manhã today features an interesting piece on this pursuit.
The outlet today writes that Spurs ‘are decided to sign’ the fullback, and their new plan is now to use Marcus Edwards in the deal.
The English forward left Tottenham to join Vitória Guimarães on a free move in 2019, and the only thing the London side was given at that time was 50% of a future sale.
Then when he was sold to Sporting this year, all clubs agreed that Spurs would continue to keep that share.
That was a smart play from Tottenham, because Edwards has been doing well at his new club, and now valued by Transfermarkt at €25m, meaning that Spurs’ part is considered to be worth €12.5m.
So with Antonio Conte making Porro a ‘priority’ for the January transfer window, Tottenham now work to get a discount on that transfer.
It’s said Spurs don’t want to trigger the player’s €45m release clause, and by giving away their part of a future transfer for Edwards, they can buy the full-back for around €30m.
