On July 3rd, Barcelona president Joan Laporta stated his club were in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a deal for Clément Lenglet. Since then, the two clubs have have continued negotiations but there’s still no agreement for the defender’s transfer.
The 28-year-old was given an additional week off by the La Liga side, with the hope his move to Spurs would be finalised in that time. That hasn’t happened so far but Barca are hoping there can be progress made on this front in the next few hours.
Sport state Xavi Hernández no longer counts on the centre-back and wants to leave him out of the squad travelling to the US for preseason.
Sport say ‘it’s possible’ for the former Sevilla man to ‘finish defining’ his move to the north London club before the Barcelona squad travel to the US tomorrow.
Today’s Marca also states the player is not included in Xavi’s plans and the manager wants to leave him out of the squad for the preseason tour. His situation is the one that worries the Catalan club the most, likely because they need to get him off their wage bill.
It’s said Lengelt’s been given time off until today to sort out his future and Marca also explain that Barca hope it’s resolved before the team leaves for the US on Wednesday.
