Southampton signed Sofiane Boufal this summer for a reported fee of £16m making him the most expensive player ever at the Premier League club.

However, there were several clubs interested in the Moroccan international before he signed for the Saints.

Boufal’s agent, Yvan Le Mee, has been speaking to SFR Sport (via Le 10 Sport), and he revealed the 22-year-old could have signed for Paris-Saint Germain if Laurent Blanc was still at the club.

He said: “We especially talked with PSG. If Laurent Blanc had stayed at PSG, then he could have certainly stayed (in France).

“We also had Arsenal when they left the Mahrez path… Finally they reconnected, but it didn’t happen. We had Tottenham and Chelsea, but Conte wasn’t boiling.”

Claude Puel said during his Thursday press conference that Boufal may be out of action for a further month.

That’s frustrating for Southampton, but if it hadn’t been for the player’s knee operation toward the end of last season then he may well have ended up somewhere else.
