Following what promises to be one of the longest sagas in the summer, Sporting now seem close to the signing of Viktor Gyokeres from Coventry City.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola today features a front-page story claiming there’s this ‘total agreement’ for the striker, with the Lions paying €20m plus bonuses for the transfer.
It’s claimed that Sporting and Coventry City are currently ‘finalising’ the transfer, and in the coming days, there could be the ‘green light’ for the player to have his medicals in Lisbon.
The story highlights that the Lions will not be paying the €24m which were initially demanded by the Championship side, so that’s seen as a bit of a win for the Lisbon club.
Meanwhile, newspaper Record is another one confirming the transfer, claiming that only details are stopping the full agreement for now.
It’s said the deal is now ‘imminent’ and could be done today, with Sporting spending a total of €24m including objectives.
Gyokeres joined Coventry City in January 2021 on a loan from Brighton.
His transfer was made permanent in the following summer for €1.2m. He now edges out of the club with 43 goals and 17 assists in 116 appearances.
