Torino this week completed the signing of Che Adams, who had been available on a free transfer following his Southampton exit.

The 28-year-old scored 17 goals for the Saints last season, 15 of those in the Championship and the remaining two in the FA Cup. In the 2022/23 season he found the back of the net fives times in the Premier League, with a further five goals coming the EFL Cup.

Torino president Urbano Cairo wants the level of goals Adams was getting for Southampton last season and his made it clear he has big expectations for the player.

The club finished ninth in Serie A last season and finding the back of the net was something of an issue for them. They scored 36 goals in 38 matches, with only three sides in the division finding the back of the net less often.

Speaking to Sky Italia, and quoted by TMW, Cairo said: “Today we made Che Adams official, he scored 16-17 goals for Southampton and we expect a lot from him.”

Cairo was asked if Torino will be aiming to qualify for Europe in the next campaign and whilst he didn’t want to commit to that he made clear that they’ll be aiming high: “We are not lacking in ambition and I have never been lacking in it. We have had a very good journey since 2012, getting good results and going to Europe. Today we are in a phase where a cycle is starting again. It is premature to say today what we want to do. We have to mix everything together and it will take time to say what the objectives will be. The last time we went to Europe we did not say it at the start of the season.”

Should Che Adams manage to fire Torino to UEFA competition then he’ll be an immediate hero at the club.
