Marseille’s Leonardo Balerdi has been linked with a move to Leeds United in the summer window.

Recent claims have stated the Whites could soon make an offer for the 26-year-old. Last week, the centre-back refused to rule out a move after this season amid claims of Leeds’ interest.

Le10 Sport now state Leeds and AS Roma are in the picture to sign the defender in the upcoming window.

The Argentina international left Borussia Dortmund to join the Ligue 1 club initially on loan in 2020 and they made his stay permanent a year later. He started to feature regularly since the 2022/23 season and Roberto De Zerbi handed him the armband this season.

Balerdi’s performances have impressed his club teammate, Amine Gouiri. The forward has been speaking to So Foot and insisted the Leeds target is one of the most underrated defenders in the league.

“The most underrated player in Ligue 1? I would say my captain, Leo Balerdi. A top player, a top defender. We know his worth, but he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves,” he said, relayed by Le10 Sport.

The South American’s contract lasts until 2028, but Leeds could be set to sign him for next season. The report states Marseille won’t let him leave unless there’s a ‘big offer’, and they make no mention of their demand.
