Last summer, Tottenham Hotspur signed Micky van de Ven from VfL Wolfsburg and he had a good start to his life in the Premier League before suffering a hamstring injury against Chelsea in November.
Spurs haven’t lost a game in the league when the centre-back has played the full 90 minutes, and have struggled in his absence, managing four wins in their last nine games.
Van de Ven’s agent Enzo Raiola has been speaking to DAZN, relayed by Calciomercato, and he revealed how his client had attracted interest from several other clubs because of his statistics when he was at FC Volendam.
“In 2019/20, many American-owned clubs asked me for Van de Ven, who is now at Tottenham, because at Volendam he was already a top player on the data he recorded. In Italy, Pisa had asked me first, they were then fighting to get up to Serie A,” he said.
The Netherlands international was in Volendam’s youth system for six years and made his way into their first team in 2019. He spent two years with them and then made a switch to Wolfsburg.
Last September, the 22-year-old had revealed Wim Jonk’s appointment as Volendam’s manager in 2019 played a key role in not only saving his career but helping him improve his game.
The Dutchman managed a goal and three assists from 27 games during the 2019/20 season for Volendam and his form under Jonk had attracted widespread interest… partly due to how he stood out in the data.
