Toni Duggan left Barcelona this summer at the end of her contract with the Catalan club. She’d moved there in 2017 from Manchester City, and went on to win the Copa de la Reina as well as finishing a runner-up, to Lyon, in this year’s Champions League.
A free agent, there’s been much talk about what’s next for the 27 year old.
With Manchester United women being promoted to the FA Women’s Super League, having won the second division in their first year of existence, a move there has been much rumoured.
Spanish newspaper Sport report Manchester United had been ‘best positioned’ to make the signing, but now a return to the Primera División is thought to be likelier.
Sport say Duggan is closing in on a move to Atletico Madrid, who have been champions for the past three seasons.
The move could be finalised in the ‘next few hours’, and it’s certainly an exciting one for Duggan should Sport be correct.
