Leeds United forward Helder Costa has revealed he held talks with Rodrigo before sealing a deadline day move to Valencia.

Costa completed a loan move to the La Liga side earlier this week, joining the Spanish club until the end of the season.

The move was very much a last-minute affair, with the player having looked likely to remain at Elland Road this season.

However, Leeds elected to let the 27-year-old depart late in the window after completing a last-minute move for Manchester United’s Dan James.

The transfer sees Costa, who managed 27 games in all competitions for Leeds last season, return to Spain for the first time since 2015, when he spent time on loan at Deportivo de La Coruña.

That means he has some experience of Spanish football, but he was keen to draw on the experience of a Leeds teammate before agreeing to his latest switch.

“The first thing I did was talk to Rodrigo Moreno,” El Desmarque report him saying to VCF media.

“He told me a lot of good things about the club and the city, and it was an easy decision. I’m happy to be here.

“(Goncalo) Guedes was (also) my team-mate at Benfica. I’ve known him for many years.

“I spoke to him before I came, and he told me that the club had all the conditions for me to continue to evolve.

“Valencia CF is a very big team. I’m very excited, and I’m eager to start working. I want to give the maximum for the team.”
