Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté has admitted that he’s thought about the possibility of joining Paris Saint-Germain.
The France international was at Paris FC’s academy for five years before joining Sochaux in 2014. After spending three years with their youth team, the Paris-born defender was promoted to their first team in 2017.
He joined RB Leipzig the same year before moving to Liverpool in 2021. Canal Football Club had a chat with Konaté, who is pleased that PSG have several players in their squad who were born in the Paris area. His comments are relayed by Foot Mercato.
“PSG today, they recruited players who get along well and who play in the national team. For Parisian fans, it makes them happy because they have their own Parisians in their team. This is what they have been wanting for years. If I see myself at PSG? But no, to say no would be to lie to you,” he said.
Despite being honest in admitting his desire to play for his hometown club, the 24-year-old has insisted that he now remains focused on his tasks at Liverpool.
“But to tell you that I’m thinking of it [moving to PSG] as a goal at the moment, not at all,” Konaté explained.
The Frenchman has made 11 appearances this season and it includes five league starts. He missed two games due to an injury and then lost his place in Liverpool’s starting lineup to Joël Matip, before regaining the place in the side since the start of last month.
