Youri Tielemans hasn’t managed to get regular game time since he joined Aston Villa on a free transfer in the last window.

The midfielder has made 11 league appearances this season and that doesn’t include a single start. He has four starts between the UEFA Conference League and the EFL Cup.

Play Sports, relayed by Voetbal Nieuws, interviewed the 26-year-old, and Aston Villa had requested them not to ask him about the lack of playing time under Unai Emery.

The Villans’ request wasn’t taken into account by Play Sports, probably because the Belgium international’s situation at Villa Park has raised concerns back in his home country.

Tielemans seems to be confident that things will improve for him at the Premier League side, where has a deal until 2027.

“I feel good and I don’t understand why people in Belgium are concerned about me,” he said.

“I obviously want to play and show myself and help the team. It was hard to understand at first, but now I’m ready to fire when I get my chance. There is no reason to panic or be frustrated.”

Former Belgium international Eddy Snelders believes that it was logical for Play Sports to ask the Aston Villa player about his situation.

“He has been saying for a while now that he is doing well, but he also said that before the World Cup. However, performance did not follow suit,” Snelders explained.

“He’s in a period where things are simply not running smoothly for him. He simply doesn’t play enough at Aston Villa.”

Another former Belgian player, Jacky Mathijssen, insists that Tielemans will find it hard to get into the current Aston Villa side that has enjoyed a good run this season.

They are fifth in the table, two points behind Liverpool and Arsenal, who are in third and fourth spot respectively.

“You can ask a personality like Tielemans such a question. Aston Villa are running and their competitors are playing well. He cannot demand much now,” Mathijssen added.
