As Napoli seem to be engaged in the pursuit for the signing of Chelsea full-back Emerson Palmieri, the Italian media continues to being the latest developments on this chase.
A story from CalcioMercato.it today claims there are ‘three obstacles’ in the way of the Serie A side to achieve the transfer.
The first one is obviously the price for the move, as Chelsea are said to be demanding €20m, and with the player playing well when he took over from Leonardo Spinazzola, it’s now hard for Napoli to get a discount.
The Blues are not accepting the €12-13m which were initially offered by the Italian club, and don’t even want to negotiate for their ‘limit’ price tag, which is of €15m.
It’s also claimed that Chelsea told Napoli that even though Palmieri’s contract expires in 2022, he’s not leaving for free.
That’s because they’ll be triggering the unilateral clause to extend his contract for another year, like they’ve done with other players before.
On one side, that means Napoli could still have a chance to land Palmieri on a loan deal.
However, with the salary the player would have at Chelsea for two more years, it’s hard for the Serie A club to match that, even with the new Italian laws which could help the club.
Agents are said to be ‘working’ on the move, as they never stopped the talks even during the Euros.
