Despite only being a bit-part player for Southampton so far this season, everyone can clearly see the talent of Sékou Mara.
His goal against Manchester City in the EFL Cup showed just why the Saints went after him when Bordeaux opened up for a sale, and they will reap the benefits going forward if he continues to develop as expected.
However, this talent hasn’t gone unnoticed, and that’s why three clubs have tried to sign him on loan from Southampton in January.
This comes courtesy of Foot Mercato in France, who explain Strasbourg and Lorient in France, as well as Augsburg in Germany have made ‘concrete approaches’ to get him.
These were ‘swept away with the back of the hand’ from Southampton, who are ‘counting on’ everyone currently at the club to try and keep themselves up in the Premier League under Nathan Jones.
The newly appointed manager is also ‘counting’ on the player himself, clearly impressed with what he’s seen of him so far.
Southampton paid €13m to get the 20-year-old in July, and that shows how highly they rated him at the time, after he scored seven goals in 36 appearances in all competitions for the now Ligue 2 side.
