Valentin Barco remains stuck at Sevilla, with Brighton and Hove Albion yet to take him back from the loan spell.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who report that the appointment of Martin Anselmi at Porto could provide the defender with a possible ally.

Barco has been on loan at Sevilla since the summer after it was made clear that he was not a part of Brighton’s immediate plans.

The hope had been that he would be a regular in Spain and continue his development, but he’s instead found himself out of the picture and unwanted.

The idea had been to cancel his loan this month and Brighton find somewhere else for him to go. Porto had been named as an option, but the Portuguese media have insisted that is not the case.

Estadio now report that Barco ‘thought his goodbye was a matter of hours’ away and has had his bags packed for weeks waiting to depart. His partner even shared an image showing as much at the beginning of the year.

He’s yet to return to Brighton or move elsewhere, though, and now finds himself stuck in limbo, in and out of Sevilla training as he complains of a discomfort in his hamstrings.

The hope is that Anselmi’s appointment at Porto could help push through a move there and finally bring the messy situation to an end. He’ll have to make his own deliberations on the potential transfer though.

And until he does, Barco will remain stuck at Sevilla, with his bags packed waiting for Brighton to do something about his future.
