Lucas Perri’s exit from Leeds United has witnessed several twists and turns. Now, he is set to seal his transfer.
The Brazilian fell out of favour under Daniel Farke in the second half of last season. This forced him to seek an exit, with Torino having pushed for his signature throughout the summer.
Sport Witness covered how Leeds United wanted to launch an auction for Perri. Marseille joined the race and this caused anxiety in Turin, as the Granata attempted to increase their offer.
Now, things are on track and the transfer should conclude soon enough.
Medical taking place soon
Today’s TuttoSport has an update which is promising for Torino and Leeds United.
Due to the Whites being helped by Marseille interest, Torino have put forward an option to buy worth €16m. This is a rise on their previous offer, which was a loan with an option to buy of €14m.
At the same time, the deal will go through as a free loan. Il Toro are ready to commit more to the option to buy than the loan fee, with owner Urbano Cairo keen on making things progress quickly.
The newspaper expect Perri to fly to Turin today, where he will undergo a medical and sign his contract.
He will not be avilable to play at the weekend against Sassuolo but could be in action in the Coppa Italia in midweek. The transfer should now finally go through – ‘this time for real’, as per TuttoSport.
Our take: Deal suits everyone
While Leeds United aren’t getting a loan fee, what they were initially meant to get wasn’t big anyway. Besides, Perri will be Torino’s first-choice and should play every league game, unless he gets injured.
That will help the Whites make sure they get the €16m from the permanent departure.
It will go down as a capital gain, after amortisation, as they spent €16m to sign him from Lyon in 2025.
For the 28-year-old, it is a chance to play regularly. While he won’t play in Europe, it allows him to establish a foundation for a big move in the future.
