Following a few bad results and some public strops, the bubble surrounding José Mourinho at AS Roma looks ready to burst.
The recent draw against Sassuolo saw the Portuguese manager publicly (and indirectly) lambast Rick Karsdorp, and now we are seeing rumours that his contract in Rome might not be renewed, which could open the door for Newcastle United.
That is, at least, what AS Roma Live are putting forward on Friday, looking at the possibility of Mourinho leaving the club.
They state the renewal is ‘not so obvious’ and ‘should Newcastle arrive again to knock on the door of Mou and Roma, then things could change’.
Now, why Newcastle would do this when they are having the time of their lives under Eddie Howe these days is beyond us, and this seems more like hope than anything else.
The Magpies have been in fine form this season following some big and astute spending since the PIF took over, as they currently sit third in the Premier League.
If things weren’t going so well, then the idea that Newcastle could ditch their manager for a more reputable one would make sense, but, as of November 2022, that seems extremely unlikely.
Howe has created a great sense of unity at St James’ Park, and bringing in Mourinho, of all people, would certainly go against everything they have been trying to build.
