Even though West Ham United have the whole summer to see what happens to Lucas Paquetá, the Brazilian national team must make a quick decision about him.
While the FA study his betting case to potentially punish him, there’s the Copa America being held in the United States next month, and the midfielder is part of the squad.
As CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues was now interviewed by ESPN Brasil, he was asked whether the West Ham player will take part in the tournament or not.
“On Tuesday we’ll discuss the Paquetá issue. In principle, there is no conviction against the athlete, only indications. We’re going to listen to all the possibilities.”
ESPN heard from its sources that it’s the CBF president who’ll take a final decision on the matter, as manager Dorival Junior and his staff will stay out of it. This is a different situation this time, because when the first accusations took place last year, it had been the manager who made the choice.
Also according to the channel, the CBF does not want to take a decision before the FA. There is, however, some hurry about it, because the West Ham star is supposed to join the Copa America squad in Orlando next week.
