On August 16th, Sevilla president Pepe Castro admitted Aston Villa have made an approach to sign Marcos Acuña and the two clubs are in talks over a deal for the left-back.

A day later, we covered claims from Spain that the 31-year-old had agreed a deal with the Villans and his transfer was imminent after Unai Emery’s side made an improved offer.

Monchi left the La Liga side to join Aston Villa earlier this summer. It was stated the new Villans director is leading their pursuit of the defender.

On Thursday, Castro was asked about the Premier League side’s ‘offer for Acuña’ and his comments are relayed by Sevilla’s official website.

“It’s not a question of Monchi. Sevilla listen to the offers of any club, be it Aston Villa or another [club],” he said.

“The reality is that the club decides if the price is appropriate or not. Obviously, if the price we believe is appropriate is not paid, he will not leave. There is no operation and therefore there is no complaint.

“We don’t have any problem. If a club want a player and doesn’t give what Sevilla thinks he’s worth, we forget about it.”

Castro’s comments would indicate that Aston Villa have never met the demand set by the Andalusian club for the Argentina international so far.

Earlier this week, multiple reports from the Spanish press stated that Emery’s side are unwilling to meet Sevilla’s request of €15m to sign the fullback.

The deal is made even more complicated after Acuña picked up a muscular injury and is set to be out of action for several weeks.
