Nuno Tavares wasn’t particularly impressive in his time at Arsenal and this led to loan stints at Marseille and Nottingham Forest.

He didn’t make too much of a mark there either but he still managed to earn a move to Lazio, who signed him on a loan deal in the summer and have an obligation to buy.

The left-back made his first start for the Rome club in their recent draw against AC Milan and grabbed two assists on his debut, impressing many. The Italian press has particularly taken note of his performance.

Gazzetta dello Sport have written about the 24-year-old’s great start, stating that the ‘music has changed’ at the club when it comes to the left-back position.

They report that a full-back like the Arsenal loanee hasn’t been seen at Lazio in quite a long time. It’s the first time in six years that a left-back has assisted twice for the club in the same game.

The piece goes on to compare Tavares to club icons like Aleksandar Kolarov and Senad Lulic, who played the left-back role for many years.

They look at how he faced discipline issues before joining Arsenal and how he can be suspect defensively, but expect him to show his attacking performances and replicate the likes of Kolarov and Lulic.

No pressure, then.
