Ruben Vinagre was a used player for Wolves during his time in the Premier League, featuring quite a bit for the club in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons.

He then spent three loan stints away from Wolves and was permanently sold to Sporting in 2022.

Unfortunately there wasn’t much improvement at the Portuguese club and after loan spells at Everton, Hull City and Hellas Verona, Vinagre is now at Legia Warsaw in Poland.

Despite the fact that his time at Wolves didn’t end in the best way due to multiple loan spells, Vinagre has only kind words for his former club.

In an interview with Record, he’s expressed his appreciation for Wolves and explained how important his spell there was to him.

“Wolves was the team that most marked my career by far. I made my debut as a professional footballer, I made my debut in the best championship in the world, I played with and against the best players of my career.

“The fans, the affection I felt, the coaching staff. It was the place where I felt happiest playing football. A lot of it is due to what we built there, the locker room was unbelievable,” he said.

“The staff, the people who took care of the food, everything. They were all five stars. So far, it is the club of my career.”

Vinagre also went on to praise his Wolves teammate João Moutinho, revealing that he is still in touch with the midfielder and turns to him when he needs some wise words.

“Of all of them, the one I talk to the most is João [Moutinho], who is the best I have ever played with. He is in the game and knows what is going to happen a minute before.

“Another 50 players who have played with him will say the same thing, he was the one who taught me the most. Even today, if I have any doubts or don’t understand something, I call him to ask. His mindset is different, he is really good.”

The 25-year-old was constantly in and around the first-team at Wolves but that hasn’t quite happened at the clubs he has played for since then.

Sporting weren’t able to find a place for him and around the Portuguese club it was considered his signing was a mistake. The loans weren’t much better, but there’s still time for Vinagre to go on and fulfil his potential.

Regardless of any of that, he’ll always have his Wolves memories.
